Do your new habits make you feel more capable, or just more distracted? It’s time to do something about your false sense of security.

What is Security Anyway?

The concept of security can be a tricky one. On one hand, security can appear as a place of comfort, offering a sense of safety and familiarity. On another hand, it can emerge as an inner resource, providing the support we need to remain present and resilient during difficult moments. No matter the circumstances, we often seek security when trying to build stability and consistency in our lives. As we move through our spiritual journey learning and adapting new habits and exercises, we chase the feeling of being secure in where we are.

There is good news and “bad” news when it comes to our quest for security. The good news is that “feeling secure” may be simpler to achieve than we think. The “bad” news is that security is one of those foundational necessities fundamental to the human experience. Meaning it can be life changing, but not in the ways you may think. Sometimes feeling secure just means that when bad things happen to us, our emotional, physical and spiritual foundation remains strong and intact despite the ongoing pressure from a perceived threat. It may not change much about our environment, but it will change how we relate to where we are. Security can also look like giving ourselves the time we need to process hard things and allowing ourselves to rest.

Being grounded begins as a state of mind and gradually leads to more trust, security and consistency within yourself and your surroundings. The transformation may be gradual but it will be effective and freeing all the same.

Is the Work… Working?

I always bring up the overall goal of spiritual work because it is incredibly easy and common to lose the plot along this journey. A large part of developing a new mindset is how it influences your inner world. Searching for proof that the work is working can leave you in a space never feeling satisfied. The proof will be in the pudding – your true feelings about yourself, your worldviews and values, and the gentle nudge that consistently pushes you to explore what you are here to achieve. All of our journeys come down to the common goal of wanting to fall into our destiny as effortlessly as possible. This can cause us to look around for signs or external validation that the work is working, when the true signs will be found internally.

Zoom In and Gain Control.

Let’s zoom in for a second, and stay zoomed in. When bringing in new habits and striving to change your life, take heed of what is changing internally. Reflect on how you feel when confronted with the same fears, doubts and challenges. See how quickly you bounce back when you have a bad day. Are you able to forgive a bit easier? Are you quicker to be honest in communication? Recognize how you feel about yourself when things don’t work out how you planned. A big component of being grounded and feeling secure is being connected to who you are in the moment. The less you call your character and abilities into question, the stronger your connection to yourself will be. And what causes us to question who we are and if we are good enough? Placing more value in external validation, rather than getting closer to your truth. Are you following me? That solid unwavering feeling you seek, begins with the seeds that will be planted by the healing work you do (on the inside!). This gives us the control we need to commit to changing our environment.

The Best of a New Beginning.

I can be honest and say that a new beginning may not always feel like we’ve hit the destiny lottery and are finally at the end of our rainbow. The best parts of a new beginning are conquering generational fears, finally being comfortable within yourself, no longer letting others influence your confidence, and fully trusting in what you know to be true for you. These are only a few of the beliefs we learn to adapt as we get closer to who we are meant to be.

So how do we get the most out of what we have been aiming for? When stepping into grounding work, seek to understand and accept who you are. Seek to recognize who you’ve become and accept what you have survived. Breathe in acceptance, gratitude and a fresh perspective that serves where you are going. As you feel more peace and stability within yourself, you’ll gain confidence to take risks and conquer new opportunities. You’ll trust your judgement to go after your desires and uphold your boundaries. You’ll bounce back after failures and learn the hard lessons even if you stumble along the way (that is where grace comes in). Being grounded keeps you connected to your progress towards who you are becoming, that is security.

Final Thoughts.

Let the inner work set the stage for your environment, not the other way around.

Commit to a new way of perceiving the world and your place in it. Take control of how you show up.

Challenge yourself to remember what will be gained from your new start, don’t be discouraged by what you are up against. Remember you have the tools needed to shift your place in your reality.
